Guest Speaker: Professor Juliet Gerrard - 'Engaging with Callaghan Innovation'
Juliet will speak particularly on her role as Callaghan Innovation’s Industry and Outreach Fellow.
Professor Juliet Gerrard is a highly regarded biochemist and leader in the industrial application of biochemistry in New Zealand. She holds a number of significant positions in recognition of her scientific work. In addition to her University of Auckland and Callaghan Innovation roles, these include Chair of the Marsden Council and Director of NZ Institute of Plant and Food Research.
The Industry and Outreach Fellowship was established by Callaghan Innovation’s predecessor IRL in order strengthen links between the research and high-value manufacturing organisations. Industry and Outreach Fellows are initially appointed for a five-year term and are mandated to resolve industry-related problems while building links between research institutions and business.
When she was appointed to this role, two years ago, Juliet said saw the overall strategic aim of the Industry and Outreach Fellowship programme as boosting collaboration. "There is a lot of research being done in both universities and industry and I’d like to bridge that gap between fundamental and applied work".
Two year’s into the role, we’ll hear how this Fellowship is relevant to the ever-evolving environment of science commercialisation. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of New Zealand’s finest!
