Guest Speaker:  This month we welcome Duncan Mackintosh speaking on two biopolymer start-ups, Aduro Biopolymers and Ligar; From Lab to Market

Both these companies are strongly connected with the primary sector:

• Aduro make Novatein, a biodegradable biopolymer from the red meat industry designed for eco-friendly applications at reasonable prices.

• Ligar offer a platform technology but an example application is the highly selective filtration of wine to remove smoke taint or crop chemicals.

Duncan Mackintosh has been the New Zealand Investment Manager for Brandon Capital Partners since May 2016.

Before this Duncan was the Chief Executive of WaikatoLink Ltd the commercialisation company of the University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand. In addition to commercialisation experience, Duncan has led a range of initiatives including the development of seed funds, an international internship programme, and collaborations, including KiwiNet - a consortium of 15 New Zealand research organisations to facilitate commercialisation. Duncan has a particular interest in the agritech and life science sectors, is founder of a number of start-up ventures and has held Directorships with Aduro Biopolymers, Ligar Polymers, Aldera Animal Health, PA Therapeutics and Auramer Bio. Prior to joining WaikatoLink, he held roles in commercialisation and technology incubator development and management.

Duncan has a BVSc from Massey University and spent 5 years in clinical practice, including leadership roles during the 2001 foot and mouth outbreak in the UK.

Fale Pasifika which is on the University Campus on the northern side of the Business School’s Owen Glenn Building (best parking option) at 20 Wynyard Street, Grafton. Just exit the Owen Glenn Building, head past the Fisher and Paykel Auditorium and find the Fale on your right.

Parking
University is well serviced by bus routes, and car parking is available under the University of Auckland Business School (the Owen G Glenn Building) on Grafton Rd. This is close to the Fale Pasifika.
